Never Cook When You're Half-Asleep... or You'll End Up Burning the Meat Loaf !

I have been tired lately, so I have been taking quite a few naps.  Perhaps I took too many of them earlier today... because I woke up about an hour-and-a-half ago... and could not go back to sleep.  And... I was starving.

So... what does a nice girl from Cleveland do when she wakes up in the middle of the night and cannot go back to sleep ?  What else... she makes and bakes a meat loaf... and then starts making her comments on Active Rain.

Well... I am sitting here... writing posts, making comments, reading other Rainer's profiles, and actually found a few that I really liked.  So... I added them as associates, and subscribed to their blogs.

That puts me here at the keyboard... typing away... waiting for the "timer" to go off on the meatloaf.  It goes like this.  Type a comment, wonder about the timer, type another comment, wonder again about the meat loaf.

It got so that I just had to get up from my desk, turn on the oven light, and actually take a look at the meat loaf.  Then I looked at the oven timer.  I must have been so sleepy when I put the meat loaf into the oven... I forgot to set the timer.

Well... luckily... I must have gotten up and/or gotten curious at just the right time... cuz the meat loaf was just fine.  But that also brought out a new "old saying" for me to use from now on.  It goes like this...

Never Cook When You're Half-Asleep... or You'll End Up Burning the Meat Loaf !

ps... the meat loaf was really great !  :)

Your meat loaf looks yummy Karen.  Now you need to post the recipe.  BTW, I've burnt many a meal by being too tired when cooking.

I want the recipe also - it looks delicious and I certainly have to use a timer 'every time" or it will be burned!!!!

Yummmmmmmm.. when is lunchtime?  Maybe if I left Austin right now I could make lunch?  I love meatloaf and the fact you didn't burn it says that women really do multitask!

Karen Anne:  The meatloaf looks great.  Makes me hungry for a meatloaf sandwich.  You see, if I were the cook in our family, we would a lot more comfort food like this.  But my husband is the cook.  No meatloafs, no stews or soups.  No crock pot meals.

Hi Karen Anne... I think the advertising slogan is something like, "Friends don't let friends cook half asleep."  I love meatloaf and it is at its peak the next day on a sandwich!  Yum!

Karen Anne - That meatloaf looks better than mine. I make it about once a year. My family likes the recipe from the Lipton onion soup box. But, yours looks like it has green peppers in it. Yum!

Pretty funny- I don't know that I would have thought to make a meatloaf in the middle of the night, but then again, I have never really liked meatloaf that much anyway!  If I get up in the middle of the night, a beer would likely be my choice!!  Or chocolate.  Or maybe both!!

Cute story Karen!  One of my problems is I need caffeine in the mornings. But being sleepy, I'm not very coordinated. Sometimes I forget to set the timer and the tea could walk by itself. Other times I set the timer and lo and behold, I forgot to put the tea bag in, or forgot to add the water!

Karen - I did something similar the other evening.  I swim a couple miles several times a week.  It had been a busy day, and I had still managed to make it to the pool to swim after.  When I came home, I threw a frozen pizza into the oven.  But I immediately forgot it, crawled onto the couch to watch the evening news and fell asleep.  I woke an hour and a half later to the acrid smell of burned salami and cheese.

Karen ~  That meatloaf looks so good.  I can smell the wonderful aroma.  I have done some similar things -- once I was talking with my manager and I set the microwave for 60 minutes instead of 6 minutes.  The smoke alarm went off after about 10 minutes.  We laughed so hard!  The food had turned into a charcoal briquette.

Karen-I love love meatloaf! :)  Did you save me a piece?  My husband follows behind me..I'm the worst..especially when I am tired. We burn pizza all the time if we don't use the TIMER!  Timers are awesome.   I really wanted to stop by and say hi..it seems the network is getting so big...and its really hard to keep up!  Hope you are feeling well and doing well.

A little heavy for my tummy at the wee hours of the morning. But meatloaf is a great comfort food for me and it looks mighty tasty.

Hello Karen!  Cute story!  I guess I am safe......since I don't cook, I let Bobby do all the cooking.  I only make the morning coffee.
