Karen Anne is Over The Hill ! Older Chick Hits 100,000 Points !

OK... here it is.  It's my almost obligatory post on both announcing and congratulating myself that with my last post entitled On Becoming Ourselves... Psychology Meets the Laws of Physics I admit to being "Over The Hill."  I have achieved that magical prize, that feat among feats... of reaching 100,000 Active Rain Points.  This fact... and about $4.95... will get me a really fancy cup of coffee at Starbucks.

So... who do I thank ?  I want to thank my mother... for without her I would not be here.  And I want to thank my Dad... for without him I would not be here either Happy Birthday To My Dad ! !

I want to thank my Cat Mollie, Mollie The Guard Cat, who keeps me safe at night by chasing away the goblins. and who keeps me warm at night, by snuggling with me.

I also want to thank, and to send the warmest wishes possible to a woman I met in 1978... during an extremely tragic period in her life... her name was also "Karen Anne". When I First Met Karen Anne... A Tale of Domestic Abuse .  It is because of this tragic young woman that I began always including my middle name of "Anne," instead of being know as "Karen" up until that time.

I'd also like to thank my friends up in Plano, Texas... Have You Heard About "Checkpoint Acrylic ?" whom I occasionally tease with some of the silly things I write about.

My daughter Robin was a big part of my journaling (which is really what much of blogging is for me) when I wrote Please keep my daughter Robin in your thoughts and prayers tonight... during the month of November, 2007.  Many of you so kindly and graciously shared our sadness with us through Robin losing her longtime pet "Lady."

And then, of course, there is my being thankful for all that I have learned from both my friends, and from those I have yet to meet My First Thought Was... Why Am I Getting All This Hate Mail as I continued to learn the in's and out's of blogging, and how to do all those fancy computer tricks. (I still have much to learn.)

I am very thankful for all the wonderful friends I have met here during my Seven Months on Active Rain.  Thank you all so very much.  MWA !

Karen Anne, congratulations on reaching an Active Rain milestone.  See, who said blogging is only for the "next generation" of REALTORS?  You're doing quite well holding your own here and certainly set an example for your peers.

Hi Brian:  Thanks so much for your kind wishes.  Yes, and Active Rain Milestone... or is it Millstone?  And yes... I was "holding my own"... but then I slipped, and dropped it.  Now what ?

OMG.....good for you.....I'm daily going onto AR to rack up points. It will take awhile to get to where you are.

I wish we could turn them in on something nice like a gift certificate, write up in the top new papers, etc....

That is awesome Karen Anne! And for the record, I don't think that millstone has worn away any of your edginess! And just think, what would the fanatics who do so love to fling things your way do if you lost your independent edge! You are unique and your raindrops sparkle a little brighter than many. I look forward to reading your posts for a long time to come.

Congratulations, Karen Anne!  You have earned every one of those points!  And you always write such wonderful posts - so full of information and thought provoking material.  You may be a Realtor(R) now, but you will always be a teacher!

I'm so glad that I found you - and I'm proud to have you as a friend!

Lane:  Lots of work... you are right.  Some nights I was pretty tired, but still, I know how important it is to respond to comments.  Thanks...

Amanda:  I will be on so glad to take you up on the coffee.  Perhaps we can meet at Panera Bread soon.

Patricia:  I suggest just writing when your heart moves you to... rather than concentrating on points.  A well-written post that invites a lot of comments can "rack up" as many points as two "cranked out" posts.  And, Patricia, if we write to those who become our "audience" either as friends who might refer to us here on Active Rain, or to clients who see us because of posting to Localism... we actually can turn them in on something nice... like a several thousand dollar commission.  It is the relationships that we build that count most.

Missy:  Thanks, hon.  Lots to learn... lots to learn.  And hey, I am still waiting for you to give that video camera to someone else, an let them follow YOU around in your new office.  I think that would be a great recruiting tool for you as a KW agent.

Mana:  Thanks for your kind words.  I really wanted to write a post with some substance to it... rather than just some silly "yippee for me, 100 K" post.

Rich:  Thanks so much !  And... noper... the "edge" stays.  Yes, that's me... the independent edge... :).  How sweet you are with your kind words.  Sparkle... yes, I like that a lot.  Some nights I don't feel very sparkley... but I almost always can come up with a cup or two of "edginess."  You enjoy my posts, and I very much both enjoy and appreciate all of your well-thought-out comments.

Hi Carol:  Whew !  For some it might not be much, but for me, in seven months, although the way I write does take time, I have really enjoyed it, and have found it very therapeutic.  You are very kind with your comments, Miss Carol.  Yes... thought-provoking they are.  Perhaps a tad heavy in some of the political posts.  Perhaps I need to lighten up the prose... just a smidge... and fine-tune the sarcasm a bit.

I am so glad you found me, too.  And I have been pleased to find you, as well.  I just love your pictures... especially the wintery ones.  I am proud to have you as a friend, too... my dear.  Take care... :)

Audrey:  I love that plane flying by.  Just how do you DO that ??

AJ:  Thank you so much.  I am so pleased at my "faithful bunch of friends" who read my posts day in and day out... as you say.  But, I know that occasionally I hear from someone who never comments... who says "oh, I read your posts all the time."  I would just love it if some of those "readers only" who say hi with a comment.  I would really love to hear from them, too.  AJ... thank you for all of your great comments.  I will keep writing if you keep commenting.  Take care...

Kay:  I write when I can, but I simply cannot match the output you continue to produce.  Sixty posts in one month... yikes.  I feel more comfortable writing fewer posts, and then watch the fun and enjoy the commnts... both from my readers, and from my commenting back to them.  I very much think that the networking and the relationship-building here on Active Rain... much more of it happens in the comments... than from the actual posts themselves.  That's just my take... and... what do I know ?  Kay, thanks for being such a faithful reader.  Take care...

Hi Jan:  Thanks so much.  There is so much more to develop in my blogging.  I really need to work at it to get to the level of those whose posts and blogs I admire and enjoy.  You do some great posts... and I just love your pictures.  I need to get much more into some of the posts like many of yours.  I'll get there.

Jan... I hope you are well.  You have been, and continue to be in my thoughts.  Take care... huggs & stuff...

Chris Ann:  Write, post and comment.  The points will add up, and you will get there.  And actually... if what you write brings loads and loads of comments, and if you comment back to those who comment, your points will add up a whole lot faster.  Congratulations on making the Directors Club, and even more, hooray for you for your Excellence in Coaching Award.  I noticed that you graduated from George Mason.  A truly great school... and now, your basketball team is making lots of noise in the March Madness tournaments, too.

I just looked at some of your posts, and read your profile. I liked what I read, so I have subscribed to your blog, and selected you as an "associate."  I invite you to look at some of my other posts, and perhaps subscribe and add me as an associate, too, if you like.  Take care...

Hi Cheryl:  Oh yes, when I started teaching... it was typing on a typewriter, with sheets of carbon paper in between every separate page... so we could get copies.  Then we got a mimeograph machine.  That all seems so ancient.  Thank you for your kind comments, Cheryl.  Some nights when I am trying to figure out how to do stuff... it can get very confusing.  I wish there were some "hands on" classes I could take.  I think I will try and see if my local board/association might be able to point me in a good direction.  I love your little avatar character.  Very cute.  You go girl, too !

Marchel:  Thank you so much.  Yes, I just went "over the mark" tonight... with my post on "Becoming a Person."  I have been watching as Jason has been creeping up on you in the Texas rankings.  I almost think that being in third place actually looks better than being in second.  Your picture is right there at the top of the column on page one, and sometimes I think people actually might miss even seeing the two people who are in the first and second spots.  You do a fabulous job... don't worry about the points or the spot.  You've got a "lock" on being Number One in Spring, Texas... and you do a simply fabulous job.  Keep up the great work...

Whew... there !  I am done.  I just wrote and posted this only five hours ago, and this comment makes number 38.  But... I am all caught up.  I wonder if this one will get featured.  I hope so, but prolly not.  Take care, all.

Hi Karen Anne - Congratulations...you did this in very short order without sacrificing quality or content.  VERY HARD TO DO.  I've been on AR since Sept. (started in Earnest in October) and only have 52,000 points and worked pretty hard to get there - so your record is tough to beat!
Posted by Ruthmarie Hicks (Keller Williams NY Realty - 120 Bloomingdale Road #101, White Plains NY 10605) almost 11 years ago

Ruthmarie:  I have worked very earnestly to write quality posts.  In some areas I have done well.  I many, many other areas... I have so much more to learn... it almost scares me.  I know it does baffle me.

I have tried to zero in on what I think are the best blogs and posts that exemplify what I would like to learn to do.  It is mostly in choosing what to write, and then learning to make my presentation of that post... appeal to my target audience.  Those last two things... choose what to write, and the learn to present it... that is totally everything there is to blogging, and getting the desired results.

I think I am doing what I am doing... well.  But... and it's a big but... I need to learn so very much.  Now that I have gotten to this point... which is something I really wanted to do... I need to focus much more on focussing... if that makes any sense.  LOL  I need to take this circus and pitch my tent more on the outside... where it will accomplish what I need it to accomplish.  And... I know exactly where to start.  Wish me luck !

Good luck Karen - Anne - I'm sure you know the direction and how to get there.  There is SOOOOO much to know about internet marketing. Although I was never in sales, I consider mysef to be computer literate (NOT a programmer or anything, but I get around on a computer and on the internet  with a fair degree of ease.)  Nevertheless, I confess to really being overwhelmed with what to do next.   At first it stopped me. I wanted to know too much before I did everything.  That's a mistake.  People need to take the plunge and then just add on as they go.  I had to work with charts and graphs a lot when I was a scientist.  But that can be boring and a lot of other people have already do that in my area so its probably not that unique.  I also did a lot of photography for presentations - some of it microscopy. So I ended up doing a great deal of localism posts with photos.  Obviously doing photography for peer review publications with slides as your subject is very different from localism photos, but I found I could apply that skill set to something completely different.

Hi Ruthmarie:  I think writing appropriate posts, and then posting them to Localism is one of the areas I have been lacking in.  The other... is fretting and over-thinking setting up and running with an outside blog.  I have been surveying, taking notes, and wondering just how I could possibly do an outside blog as well as some that I have seen.  I have seen many, many other outside blogs that I would not even think of putting my name on... if that makes any sense.  As you said... you just have to jump in.  I think I am finally ready to jump.  Take care...

Thank you for your very kind words.  Luckily, I can type, and fortunately... I write decently well.  A stand-up career after this ?  I already DID that... during my nine years as a seventh grade teacher in the Catholic schools in Cleveland.  That's where I get a lot of my "material" from... :)  And again, thank you for your kind words.  Hope you and Roger are well.  Take care...

Meg:  That is great.  I hope you enjoy... I'll be looking for your insightful comments.

Jason:  Sheesh... I hope I can last another even months.  Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Adele:  With a cup of coffee like that... just like Jan says... I'll be up all night.  Maybe I can get some donuts to do some Dunkin with ?

Terry:  No Maui condo for me, my dear.  And... I appreciate the toast.  Perhaps I can dunk it in the coffee.  As far as being "regaled"... it's been a very long time since I've been "regaled."  Hey... the English teacher in me just noticed that the root word of "regaled"... is "regal."  Cool !

Jan:  Where's the Jan Blog.  You're not far from whooshing into second place in in Bay County.  I see you are already in first place in Panama City Beach.  Yay !

Alan:  Thank you so much for your sparkling bunny... an Easter Bunny, I am guessing.  Well... to quote a well-known philosopher, Mr Dean Martin... "Every bunny loves some bunny sometime."  Thank you for your kind comment.  Take care...

Joey:  I did not know about being one of the top 100 read bloogers on AR.  Could you either send me a link to that list, or tell me where I can find it.  Wow... what a nice surprise.  And... thanks for your kind words.  Take care...

Diane:  Well... congratulations to you, TOO !  So, you do know what is involved in getting to 100,000 points.  And, Diane, thank you for your kind comments.  They bring a smile to my face.  It is so nice to have what I write be so appreciated and enjoyed.  You are very kind.  Take care...

Paul:  Thank you for your kind words.  And yes, reaching 100,000 points is no small feat.  Also, when I look down to those two things with toes on the ends of them... just below my ankles... I notice I do not have small feet, either... LOL.  Take care...

Hi Julie:  It has been a long seven months as far as the writing is concerned.  It has been a short seven months as far as how much I have learned, and how many friends I have made.  Again... to you... Welcome to Active Rain.  Take care...

Say "meow" to Mollie!

Richard:  Thanks so much for your kinds thoughts.  Yes, it does take lots of time and work... but most of the time, I am just sitting down by the keyboard and "channeling" my cat Mollie.  She just had a really hard time typing with her little kittie feet.
Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) over 10 years ago
Rick:  Yes Rick, 82 comments surprised me, too.  And to think I was really considering not writing a post when I hit 100,000.  So many of them are so self-congratulatory that I was mostly yawning when I was thinking about writing one.  Then, the idea for including a number of my previous posts links in my 100K post... made it make more sense.  There are many folks who are reading my recent posts who have not ventured back into posts from earlier months, and I thought this post done with "links" would be a good way for me to invite them back into the past.  Take care... and Mollie says "meow" too.  Actually, I told her it was you, and she started purring.  Nice going !

Congratulations to you Karen Anne! I don't see how you did that so fast! I love reading your posts and take them for granted now. Don't you wonder what you spent all your time on before the rain? I do. I don't know why I even own a TV. Keep blogging! Later in the rain~Deb

Hi Debra:  Thanks for your kind words.  Perhaps I should save money and cancel my Dish Network, too.  But... that's how I watch my RE/MAX Satellite Network, so I can't do that.

I'm glad you love reading my posts... and that you even take them for granted.  But... please try and leave a comment... just so I know you're out there.  Thanks so much.  Take care...

CONGRATULATIONS! You deserve to have all the friends you have gotten here, you are a fun read and I love it when you comment on my blogs even if it an Easter blog, that you still hate - lol

But, I still love you even though we disagree sometimes, but that is what makes us human!

Even though as you put it "Over the hill" I wish I could be with you, as this climb seems to be hard at times!

Doug:  I hope I live long enough to recover from all the work it took to get to 100,000 !  Just keep on posting and commenting, and you'll get there.  One post a day, and ten comments a day, and you'll be surprised how quickly you will be there.  Thanks so much for your kind words.

Susie:  First of all... I love the graphic.  I still love the absolutely wonderful graphic you included in your get-well post to me... the little girl with the get well sign.

Just out of curiosity... which posts do you remember the best ?  I would love to hear your take on which of my posts you either found most memorable, or that you liked the most... for one reason or another.  I value your opinion.  Thanks a bunch... take care...

By the way... my dear... Mollie T Cat insists that you retract your remark about the Big Dogs.  She chases them away... Guard Cat that she is.  Blog - Mollie The Guard Cat

I prefer being with the big cats... thank you very much.

Margaret:  Thank you so much.  One hundred comments on my post about hitting 100,000 points on Active Rain.  But, instead of just writing rah rah 100K points, I tried to share a nice story about how I got here.  I really enjoy inviting folks to share in both my posts and share in the comments, too.  Thanks for your kind words... hope things in Baltimore are going well for you... and that the radio show is doing well.  Take care...

Gosh Karen-Anne I'm sorry I'm a bit late to the party but it's never too late to say congratulations on this big One OH OH from one of your friends in "checkpoint acrylic" who does not get her stubs done!
Posted by Karen Otto, Plano Home Staging, Dallas Home Staging, www.homes (Home Star Staging) over 10 years ago

Miss Karen:  Any party hostess who starts her party before you get there... is simply wasting the champagne.  So... now the party can begin.  And hey, I gave up on getting mine done, too.  My natural fingernails will just have to do, although I must admit that I treated myself to the pampering of a 90 minute pedicure this past Friday.  Talk about relaxing... yikes.  Have you ever had a pedicure ?  There is pretty much nothing like it.  Well, actually... there is... but I don't get much of that anymore... LOL.  I know... TMI.  Oh well.  Take care... and thanks so much for your kind wishes.  Have some bubbly, my dear.

That  "Checkpoint Acrylic" post of mine must have made an impression on you.  I hope nobody was offended by that.  Take care...
