How About Turning your Clocks Back Twenty-Five hours Instead of Just One ?

Most folks I know turned their clocks back One Hour last night.  That's because the end of Daylight Savings time is here.  So now, it gets darker one hour earlier today than it did yesterday.

That, of course, gave ALL of us one extra hour yesterday (Saturday) to finish all the things on our "To Do" list.

The younger you are, the less trouble or confusion messing with that "one extra hour" will cause you.  But some of us older kids... well... just that one hour can mess with what the sleep doctors call our "circadian rhythms."  For some of us, it will take weeks to adjust.

Also, it not only affects humans, but plants and animals, as well.  I have even read stories by dairy farmers... that even their milk-producing cows can have a difficult time adjusting.

I don't know about you, but just that extra one hour we got yesterday really doesn't help me catch up with all the "stuff" on my "to do" list... so I am proposing a new idea.

What if... instead of doing the "same old, same old" routine of turning our clocks back only ONE hour to get that extra hour of sleep, or work-time... what IF... we turned our clocks back TWENTY-FIVE hours ?

Instead of getting an extra hour, we would get an entire extra DAY.  We could use it for work... or... we could use it for sleep.  I am tired... I could use the sleep.  So... for almost all of you... today is Sunday.  For me... I get the full extra 25 hours... so for me, it is still Saturday.

I have been reaching into the far corners of my brain... dusting out the cobwebs... and thinking about this.

So... whaddya say ?  Could it work ?

Just wondering...

I wouldn't mind having an extra day to do all those things you never have time for!

I don't think it will work but I do like the idea.

Posted by Richard Riley, CDPE, I.R.E.S. (RE/MAX Properties SW) about 6 years ago

Oh wow!  And extra day??!! That would be awesome, if I could sleep the entire day. If it had to be like a regular day, it wouldn't help much.. Landon was up at 4:30 this morning and Alyssa up at 6:15. They didn't understand I went to bed late so I could get an extra hour!

Amanda:  That's what I like to see... a nice positive outlook.  Good for you.  So now... go take a nap... LOL.

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Well, we certainly would ALL have to do otherwise it would really mess with our apointments. HA. And then theres the springing forward part of missing a whole day.. :( Hey, one good thing, There was plenty of time to get ready for church today! :-D

Richard:  You old spoil sport.  Come on, now.  Give it a try.  If enough of us do it, we just might be able to make a small tear in the fabric of the space/time continuum.

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Donna... most days I would think having your two totally cute kids would make up for it... but wow... can they tire a girl out.  And actually, I think this is already something that Governor Perry has been doing for years.  I think he does it the day before the debates.  Whaddya think ?

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Good afternoon Karen Anne,

That sounds like a brilliant idea!! It might take everybody a day or two to get in sync with what day it is but hey..why not give it a try? I'm setting my clock back right now..it's still Saturday!! LOL!!

Posted by Dorie Dillard, Serving Buyers & Sellers in NW Austin Real Estate (Coldwell Banker United Realtors® ~ 512.346.1799) about 6 years ago

Tammy E:  You mean... with the extra hour... you looked even better than you usually do... for going to church.  Blessings for everyone !

And, for the "Spring" part... we could only do it in the Fall.  I know then, though, that it would take us 365 years to catch up... but hey, who's counting ?

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Dorie:  See... I just KNEW you had a brilliant mind !  I just knew it !  And yeah, so it takes a while to get used to it.  Actually, it is very possible most of the folks in Austin might never catch on the the folks who followed my "turn back" suggestion.

By the way... Happy Saturday !

I was humming Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time" all day today.  It would be interesting if we could all pick one do over day in our lifetime.  Wonder what people would pick?

I don't think I could get it all done if I had an extra year.  Too much to do, not enough time.

Cindy:  Just goes to prove that great minds think, or humm, alike.  You propose a great idea to ponder.  Hmmm... I wonder.  If each of us could pick just one day... as a "do over..." which day would people pick ?

I need to go back into my cave and do some intense pondering on this.  Great comment !  Have a great week !  <love that picture>

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

LOL Karen!!! You're a hoot!! And yes, it would take a while to catch up with that one!!

Posted by Tammy Emineth, Content Marketer, SEO Teacher, Website Fixer (Personal SEO - Website SEO and Real Estate Marketing) about 6 years ago

Tammy on Lake Sinclair:  I fully understand.  So, in that case... when faced with truly insurmountable odds... just take an extra twenty-five hour nap.  Then, with all that stockpiled energy, just think what you could get done.

Or, perhaps better yet... forget the work.  Just enjoy the extra rest.  <smile>

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Tammy E:  Hmmm... another hoot, huh ?  Yeah, that's me... she said with an "owl'ish" accent.  Perhaps we could each get an extra bottle of that red Heinz Fifty-Seven condiment stuff.  You know... to help us "catch-up."  <ducking>

Karen Anne, I'm thinking of going to bed an hour early to celebrate the hour we'll lose come Spring, that way I'll be all caught up. *Yawn!* Did you know that Arizona does not 'fall back'?

Posted by Wanda Kubat-Nerdin, St. George Area Preferred Residential REALTOR® (Residential, Referrals & Relocation REALTOR at PK Real Estate Utah South) about 6 years ago

Debbie:  I just knew you would like it.  I bet you were "floored" when you thought about all the possibilities.  :)

My idea is not that hard... would you like to try it ?  <get it... hard, would... hardwood... LOL>

Perhaps I could re-write this post... just for you ?  Actually... I would not actually re-write it... more like "refinish" it.

I think I better stop now before I hurt my head.  :(

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Michael:  I really wonder some days exactly what I would do if I could turn back the clock 25 years, and make some different choices.  Unfortunately, none of the paths we might choose would be perfect.  Just a new set of highs and low.  But still... some days do I wonder.

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Karen Anne, I love your idea!  I could probably use an extra day every month..

Posted by Eric Kodner, CRS, Madeline Island Realty, LaPointe, WI 54850 - (Madeline Island Realty) about 6 years ago

Wanda... actually yes... I DO know that Arizona does not "fall back."  But, from what I DO know... there are many other things in Arizona that they have backwards.

And... my dear... I don't know of any time that is not the right time to either take a nap, or go to bed an hour early.  But, I think that when I say things like that... my advanced age is showing.  Have a great week.

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 6 years ago

Eric:  Maybe we could get a movement going.  Instead of marching and doing the Occupy Wall Street stuff... we could march, and Occupy Mattress Warehouse.  Whaddya Think ?  But hey... you think you could use an extra day now... just wait 'till you hit 40.  <dorky smile>

While it's fun to think about, I guess I'd better stick to one foot in front of the other.....time...............it's such an intresting abstract

Karen-  I would love to have an extra day....with a baby sitter too!   This is what I would do with my dream extra 24 hours.... Start off by sleeping in, lounge around with a great cup of coffee, go get my nails and hair done and then pretty much after that just relax and be waiting on.... Someone just pinched me so I am up from my dream!!!

Why don't we take it one step further? What if we make it Groundhog Day and keep replaying it until we get it right. I think that might work for me.

Posted by Jill Sackler, LI South Shore Real Estate - Broker Associate (Broker Associate, Charles Rutenberg Realty Inc. "Said and Done!") about 6 years ago

Jill:  Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies.  I especially love it when Bill Murray starts seriously "courting" Andi McDowell... all the cute things he does... and then really like the scene where he is playing the piano.  And, from then on... the ice sculpture, the "lovey" stuff, and the storybook ending.  I have seen it perhaps eight or nine times.

Hi Karen Anne - You're right about having more trouble adjusting when we're no longer youngsters, but the ones who have the most difficulty in our house are the cats.  They get used to a certain schedule and cats are sticklers for routine.  When the clocks change one direction or the other, it takes them a few weeks to stop waking me up an hour early or wanting to eat or go outside too close to bedtime (we bring our cats inside at night).

Karen --

I'd prefer that we don't even do this daylight savings time thing. It isn't done all over the world. When I first moved the the US, I truly didn't and still don't see the benefit.

Karen Anne, it would be nice to have an extra day+1hour. BTW Russia didn't switch to the 'winter' time. They will no longer do it. Maybe it is a great idea, but if remember it correctly the whole deal with day light savings started in Spring time so whoever made that decision in Russia should've at list wait till Spring.
