Fort Worth Real Estate | Cowboy's New Home is Taking Shape...

Here is what the Cowboy's new home is starting to look like...

I am hanging this out in the blogosphere for you to see what's going on in Cowboy Country.  Take a pee, and then try and share with us what being a Cowboys fan means to you.  Or... share your favorite Cowboys memories, or tell us all a Cowboys story.

To share one of my Cowboys memories, I will have to travel back in time to before my daughter Robin and I moved to Dallas.  Robin used to be absolutely glued to the television screen whenever the Cowboys played the Browns.  She had a crush on Tony Dorsett.  Well, as much of a crush as a nine-year-old girl can have.  It was fun watching her watch Tony.  She liked the long touchdown runs, and the occasional passes he would catch.

When he was running, and swivel-hipping down the field to dodge oncoming tacklers... she used to say that he and Elvis were pretty good at wiggling their hips.  Then... when I noticed how she paid special attention to watching Tony while he would "bend over" in the huddle... LOL... I kinda-sorta got the idea that perhaps she was starting to grow up.  Now... on to the pictures :

This photo came out pretty clear.  Three cranes busy trying to get things rolling as fast as possible.  I had to get pretty close to the barbed wire fence on this one to get as much of a close-up as I could.  From totally circling around the stadium, it appears that access by car when the games are being played will be a lot easier than I first thought.

This picture below was taken from the driveway/street right next to the Wal Mart on the corner of Collins and Randol Mill Rd.  I almost got hit by a van while taking it.  Those drivers have absolutely NO sense of humor.  You'll see the van in one of the pictures below.  What a creep !

The picture below was taken from the parking lot grass along Randol Mill right next to the Wal Mart.  No crazy SUV drivers to dodge, but I got some pretty funny looks.  Got a couple of "honks" too.  Must have been a much older guy who forgot his glasses... LOL.

For this picture, I had to drive up a side street, and into an apartment parking lot, up to a street barricade, and peer over a fence topped with barbed wire.  That was fun.  LOL.  Yeah, until the barking dog came out.  Oops.

Here... I drove into a burger place on Collins St, parked, and stretched up above the fence to take this shot.  I think the driver of the semi in the lower right was making some sort of "hand signal" towards me.  I thought he was waving at me, but he wasn't using all five of his fingers.  I wonder what he meant ??

For this one, I had to drive up a side street, park, upen up the tailgate of my Honda CR-V, and stand on top of it so I could see over the black plastic fence they surrounded it with.  Almost fell off the back... LOL

This was another easy parking lot shot.  I didn't have to dodge any SUV's, stand on my tailgate, or have someone give me that funny hand-signal for this one... it was just too easy.  I almost felt cheated.

This was another one taken from the driveway next to the Wal Mart.  In order to try and get the camera above the tops of the traffic, I had to climb on top of a sewer pipe to take this one.  I bet I looked pretty odd perched up there.    Oh, the van pictured below was the one that tried to run me over.  He missed.

This is another one where I was standing in the middle of the street.  This is Randol Mill and Collins.  I had to click this one quickly, cuz this guy was also trying to run me over.  I think hitting an older woman taking pictures in the middle of the street wearing heels was only worth three points, though, so I don't think he tried very hard to hit me.

As a diehard Washington Redskins fan, I could only cite the times that the Cowboys lost to the Redskins as my favorite memories.  lol.  I'm sure that's not what you have in mind!

I noticed that big arch when we drove by the stadium earlier this week (when I was visiting TX), and couldn't help wondering what that is supposed to represent.  Do you know?

Hi Margaret:  Actually, some of my favorite memories were all the times the Browns beat the Redskins.  So there !  I do not know what the arch you speak of is.  Mebbe there is a McDonalds in the new Cowboy stadium ?

Karen Anne - Thanks for posting these pictures.  It looks like they are making really fast progress on the stadium.  My favorite memories were the EIGHT Superbowl visits that the Cowboys had, and the FIVE victories!

Yes Jason:  I drove all around the new stadium... all four sides.  I drove down some back alleys... that is where I took the photos that show barbed wire at the top.  I have quite a few more if you would like to see them.  Or... should I just include them in this blog post ?  I really did not know what to do with them when I made this post.  Any ideas how I could have made this a better post ?  I am open for suggestions.  I have the pictures, I just don't know the stories.

I took pictures from the Wal Mart parking lot, a burger place, a Mexican restaurant, the parking lot for the Rangers baseball stadium, and of course, standing right in the middle of the street.  It was fun... but boy did I get some goofy looks.      Karen Anne

I certainly appreciate your efforts here.  I hope that some people will step up with some memories of attending games with family, friends, etc.  I only went to two games, both as a child, and my memories are not strong on either of the visits.  I know that sounds crazy since I am such a diehard fan now.  Would you mind adding some family info so that it fits into the new group a bit better?  That would be my main suggestion.

Jason:  I just re-wrote the entire post... kind of taking all of you with me while I was taking the photos.  Add family info ?  Done !  Another little story about my daughter Robin and her favorite Cowboy, Tony Dorsett.

KAREN ANNE:  Thanks for posting these pictures.  I am looking forward to the new stadium, as I think that it will make all of the others pale by comparison.  I will be making a trip to make sure that I get to see a game at the old stadium before it closes.

Karen Anne - I could really be happy for you and the new stadium you are building, except, I am an Indianapolis Colts fan and we really wanted that 2011 Super Bowl :(

I guess no one wants to come to Indy in the winter which I do not undertsand :)

This is a really great post; I look forward to the contuing pics!

Adam - When you come, we can attend that game together!  I want to go to at least one more game at Texas Stadium myself.

Go Cowboys!!  I remember really liking this team when I was younger and Tom Landry was around...

I can't brag about how great the Tampa Bay Bucs are...even though this season is off to a great start!!  I've lived here too long to "believe!"

Hi Paula:  I am sure that Indianapolis is about as cold in the winter as Cleveland was.  So, I would be used to it.

Margaret:  About the arches.  When I find out, I will let you know.  My guess is that they would be the girders that would form the "arched roof" of the ceiling, or else perhaps would house the mechanism for a retractable roof.  I don't know, but I will find out.

Susie:  What do you mean... "When you were younger?"  You still are younger.  Silly woman !

Karen Anne - Nice re-working of this post.  It looks good and I really felt like I was with you when you were taking this.  I have a special appreciation, because I feel like you did this just for me, although I may be wrong.  I would have felt terribly guilty if you were hurt.  Thanks for your efforts to get these posted - I love them!  I look forward to watching the Cowboys mop up the Rams tomorrow afternoon.  Have a great Sunday!

Yes Jason:  Well, I aim to please.  Actually, although you gave me the idea, and I must admit I probably would not have done it otherwise... but now that I have taken the pictures and put together the post, I think it turned out just great.  I have had a surprising number of people come up to me and personally thank me for the post, which surprised me, because I had no clue it was being read like that... locally.

The Fort Worth/Dallas area is just so crazy about the Cowboys... although I am guessing they will not be called the Arlington Cowboys after their new stadium is compete.  Whaddya think ?  Funny... but they are just minutes from downtown Fort Worth, and about thirty miles from Dallas.  Whooda thunk ?

Posted by Karen Anne Stone, Fort Worth Real Estate (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 10 years ago

Yeah, I am guessing that the "Arlington Cowboys" would have a tough time retaining their status as America's Team.  You're right - DFW is crazy about this team.  It gets even more feverish when they have a good season (which has been awhile, unfortunately).  Thanks again!

Karen Anne - great post. Its like you were on a treasure hunt to get all of the angles of the new stadium. All the blurbs you wrote were very cute. My first memories of the Cowboys were that I didn't like them because I was a 49ers fan in the early 80s (Joe Montana is still Hot! LOL). But there's no doubt about it they have been and are a great team. My fiance likes T.O. so we usually catch the games.

Hi Bridget:  I am glad you liked my post.  So... did you give it a five and flag it to make it a "featured post ?"  LOL.  I am STILL waiting for one of my posts to get "featured status."

Probably the thing I remember most about watching the Cowboys from up in Cleveland... is how excited my nine year old daughter used to get when she watched Tony Dorsett's behind as he bent over in the huddle... LOL.   She just loved Tony.   Those were the days... !
