Yes, We Remember 9/11. But...

As I sit here this Sunday Morning, September 11, 2011... I read post after post from our fellow and sister Rainers as we remember that horrible day ten years ago.  Many memories, and many thoughts have been shared, about the tragedy we as a nation felt that day, and continue to feel to this day.

It is so true that we must never forget 9/11.  But... as we remember the horrible events from ten years ago... we must also realize and accept the fact that there are still people who are dying because of 9/11.  Dying right now !

The first responders who answered the call... after the towers collapsed.  They went to work... dug in... to hopefully find the few survivors who were alive and breathing amidst the ruins.  These men and women were told that it was "ok" to work on the ruins.  They were told the air, although obviously barely breathable... was safe.

But... even as I write this... those brave men and women continue to fight for their own survival with various diseases... lung cancer and other respiratory diseases, blood diseases, and the additional various traumas they incurred.  We as a nation need to take care of these people... not toss them aside.  And... we are only doing a half-assed job of it.  Shame on us.

If we truly want to fully honor those who died on that fateful day of 9/11/01... we must honor them by providing all the medical care necessary to those brave men and women first-responders who worked tirelessly on that day... and in the days and weeks that followed.

We MUST remember them, as well.
